TSB hosting American Marine Accident Investigators' Forum

Gatineau, Quebec, 21 April 2015 – The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) is pleased to host the 2015 American Marine Accident Investigators' Forum (AMAIF) which is happening April 20-23, 2015.

This year is the first time Canada is hosting AMAIF, an annual meeting of representatives from marine accident investigation authorities of the Americas. The organization is dedicated to advancing marine safety through the sharing of best practices, experiences and information acquired in marine accident investigations. This week's meeting is an opportunity to exchange ideas and to foster co-operation and communication between marine accident investigators.

The TSB will provide AMAIF delegates with an overview of TSB tools, investigation policies and procedures, as well as its training program and laboratory capabilities. Additionally, the TSB will engage and seek feedback from AMAIF members on two TSB Watchlist items – safety management and oversight and fishing vessel safety. With passenger safety being a TSB concern and given recent high-profile accidents such as Sewol in South Korea, and the Costa Concordia in Italy, delegates will discuss the action required to make improvements in this area.
