Rail transportation safety investigation R15D0103
The occurrence
On, a cut of empty intermodal cars in the possession of Canadian Pacific Railway and stored near the Hochelaga Yard in Montréal, Quebec, ran uncontrolled, resulting in the derailmcars. The cars and railway track sustained damage. One car struck the wall of a property adjacent to the railway right-of-way. The occupants of 7 homes were evacuated. No dangerous goods were involved, and there were no injuries.

The occurrence
On , at about 2230 Eastern Daylight Time, while departing Farnham Yard, in Farnham, Quebec, 15 cars of Central Maine & Québec Railway freight train 2-10 derailed near the crossover between the siding and the main track of the Adirondack Subdivision. The crossover, a section of the siding of about 800 feet in length and the derailed cars were damaged. There were no injuries.

The occurrence
On , at approximately 1408 Central Daylight Time, Canadian National freight train M34641-23 was proceeding eastward on the Fort Frances Subdivision when 35 cars derailed at Mile 93.38 near Fort Frances, Ontario. The derailed cars included 2 tank cars loaded with molten sulphur (UN 2448), 1 of which was punctured and released product. The product ignited a small grass fire that subsequently burned itself out. There were no injuries.

On , at 0607 Pacific Standard Time, Canadian National train Q19771-09, travelling westward at approximately 32 miles per hour, derailed 1 locomotive and 8 intermodal flat cars consisting of 17 platforms at Mile 48.41 of the Skeena Subdivision. No injuries were reported and no dangerous goods were involved.
