The occurrence

On , at about 0940 Eastern Standard Time, Canadian National Railway Company freight train Q14891-08, proceeding eastward on the Dundas Subdivision, struck a snowplow on the sidewalk at the Colborne Street public crossing at Mile 77.66 in London, Ontario. The crossing was equipped with flashing light signals, a bell, and gates. The lone occupant of the snowplow was fatally injured.

On , at about 0215 Eastern Daylight Time, a Canadian Pacific Railway (CP) yard foreman and a CP yard helper were performing switching operations at CP’s Toronto Yard in Toronto, Ontario using a remote control locomotive system (RCLS). The yard foreman was operating yard assignment T16-13 (the assignment) when it began to roll uncontrolled eastward on the Staines connecting track.

On , at approximately 1845 Eastern Daylight Time, Canadian Pacific Railway (CP) freight train 142-14 experienced a train-initiated emergency brake application at Mile 36.6 on the south track of CP’s Winchester Subdivision, near Saint-Polycarpe, Quebec. An inspection determined that 22 cars had derailed. There were no injuries and there was no release of dangerous goods.
