On 21 November 2023, exo commuter train 1212 (EXO 1212), consisting of a locomotive and 3 multilevel passenger cars with 8 passengers and 2 crew members on board, was stopped at the exo Saint-Léonard–Montréal-Nord station, at Mile 135.89 of the CN St-Laurent Subdivision.
On 19 November 2023, a Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway (BNSF) freight train was proceeding northbound on the main track of the New Westminster Subdivision in Delta, British Columbia, at Mile 133.5, when it passed a stop signal and struck the side of a southbound mixed merchandise BNSF freight train.
On , a Canadian Pacific Railway Company (CPKC) mixed freight train travelling from Montreal, Quebec to Edmonton, Alberta, was proceeding west on the Brooks Subdivision when 18 intermodal flat cars (41 platforms ) carrying various goods, including dangerous goods, derailed near Brooks, Alberta. The second locomotive was also damaged as a result of the derailment.
On 11 February 2024, a Canadian Pacific Railway Company (CPKC) remotely controlled switching assignment was pushing 63 cars westward on a track in Kipp Yard when the lead car of the movement struck a cut of 78 stationary cars.
As a result of the collision, a total of 11 cars derailed, including 7 cars containing dangerous goods. There were no leaks or injuries reported. The TSB is investigating.
On 06 March 2024, a Canadian National Railway Company (CN) freight train loaded with wheat was travelling east on the north main track when 17 loaded hopper cars derailed at Mile 34.30 on the Rivers Subdivision.
No dangerous goods were released, and no injuries were reported.
With a view to advancing transportation safety, the TSB is publishing data from its Rail Occurrence Database System (RODS) on reportable accidents and incidents (which together are called occurrences) for use by industry and the public. The TSB gathers these data in the course of its investigations and uses them to analyze safety deficiencies and identify risks in the Canadian transportation system.
