The derailed cars were covered hopper cars loaded with frac sand. The derailment damaged about 1300 feet of track. There were no injuries
On , at about 0748 Mountain Daylight Time, Canadian National Railway Company freight train Q11251-03 was proceeding eastward on the Edson Subdivision when it collided at 18 mph with the tail end of train M30251-02 at Mile 34.9 near Carvel, Alberta. No cars derailed as a result of the collision. There was minor damage to 1 empty hopper car on train M30251-02. There were no injuries.
On , at approximately 0623 Mountain Standard Time, Canadian Pacific Railway freight train 293-16, proceeding north toward the Red Deer Subdivision at approximately 2.5 mph, derailed 13 cars (11th to 23rd) on the east leg of the north wye in Alyth Yard, Calgary, Alberta. There were no injuries and no dangerous goods were released.
On , at approximately 0130 Pacific Daylight Time, a rail traffic controller at Canadian Pacific Railway stopped train 672-024 near Mile 102 on the Cranbrook Subdivision after the train had departed Cranbrook, British Columbia, and travelled east for 5 miles without authorization.
